We guide individuals through the ancient medicine of Iboga, one of the most profound tools known to humanity for breaking addiction, resolving deep trauma, and catalyzing a complete psychological rebirth. Our work is medically grounded, spiritually held, and profoundly human.

About Iboga & Ibogaine

What is the difference between iboga and ibogaine?

Iboga refers to the full root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga plant, used for millennia by the Bwiti people of Gabon in initiation and healing ceremonies. It contains dozens of alkaloids working synergistically, the experience is traditionally held, holistic, and deeply spiritual. Ibogaine HCl is the isolated primary psychoactive alkaloid, extracted and purified for more precise, medically calibrated dosing. At Entheos, we work with both: full-spectrum iboga for those seeking a traditional, whole-plant experience, and ibogaine HCl for individuals requiring precise medical detox protocols. The right choice depends on your background, intention, and physiology, something we assess together during your consultation.

How long does an iboga experience last?

The primary iboga experience typically lasts 18 to 30 hours, though the full arc of the medicine, including the afterglow and integration phase, continues for several days afterward. The visionary and introspective portion usually peaks in the first 6 to 12 hours. Our 12-hour slow titration protocol means the medicine builds gradually, which reduces intensity spikes and allows for a more navigable, meaningful experience.

Is iboga legal in Thailand?

Ibogaine is not a controlled substance under Thai law, which is one reason Chiang Mai has become a thoughtful destination for those seeking this treatment. However, legal status can evolve, and we recommend verifying current regulations for your home country before travelling. We operate with full transparency and medical rigor.

What conditions does iboga treat?

Iboga and ibogaine have the strongest evidence base for opioid addiction and substance dependence, the ability to interrupt physical withdrawal and dramatically reduce cravings is one of iboga's most documented properties. Beyond addiction, iboga is increasingly sought for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, trauma resolution, existential crisis, burnout, and profound life transition. It is not a cure or a quick fix, it is a catalyst. The work done before and after the treatment is what determines lasting change.

Can iboga treat depression?

Yes. Iboga's action on multiple neurological systems, serotonin, dopamine, sigma receptors, and GDNF/BDNF neurotrophic factors, creates conditions for a significant reset of depressive patterns. Many participants describe a profound lifting of the emotional weight they have carried for years, and a renewed capacity for meaning, connection, and forward movement. We have a dedicated section below on iboga for depression with more detail.

Can iboga help with PTSD?

Iboga provides access to deep biographical memory with unusual clarity and compassion, allowing participants to revisit and reprocess traumatic experiences without being overwhelmed by them. Combined with somatic work and skilled trauma-informed facilitation, iboga treatments can produce significant reductions in PTSD symptoms, intrusive memories, hypervigilance, and emotional numbing. See our dedicated iboga for PTSD section below for more.

Safety & Medical Screening

Is ibogaine safe?

Ibogaine is a powerful medicine that demands complete medical seriousness. When administered carelessly or without proper screening, it carries real risks, primarily cardiac. However, when conducted with thorough medical screening, a slow titration protocol. Our entire protocol is built around safety: 12-lead EKG, full blood panel, electrolyte optimization, and 12-hour titration. We do not take shortcuts. Safety is our first priority.

Who cannot do iboga? What are the contraindications?

Absolute contraindications include prolonged QTc interval on EKG (above 450ms), pre-existing cardiac disease or arrhythmia, severe liver damage, active epilepsy, schizophrenia or active psychosis, bipolar disorder Type I in active mania, current use of MAOIs, antipsychotics, or tricyclic antidepressants, current methadone use (until transitioned), untreated thyroid disorder, active alcohol or benzodiazepine dependence (medical detox required first), pregnancy, and severe uncorrected electrolyte abnormalities. Many medications require tapering and washout periods before treatment. Full details are listed on our Medical Safety section on the home page, and every participant undergoes individual review.

Do I need to stop my antidepressants before treatment?

Yes, most antidepressants require a tapering and washout period before an iboga treatment can safely proceed. SSRIs typically require 2 to 6 weeks (fluoxetine/Prozac requires 5 to 6 weeks due to its long half-life). SNRIs require 2 to 4 weeks with a slow taper. This is a clinical requirement, not a preference. We walk you through the full protocol during your medical consultation, and we never rush this process. Your safety depends on it.

What medical tests are required before treatment?

Every participant undergoes: a 12-lead EKG (screening for QT interval prolongation and cardiac abnormalities), a full blood panel including liver function tests (AST, ALT, GGT, ALP, bilirubin, albumin), an electrolyte panel (magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium), a complete blood count, thyroid panel (TSH, T3, T4), and a complete medication and substance review. These can be performed locally in your home country or in Chiang Mai before your retreat begins. We provide a full testing guide during your intake process.

The Retreat Experience

What happens during an iboga treatment retreat?

After thorough preparation, you will be in a comfortable, private space with at least one team member present at all times. The medicine is administered slowly over 12 hours, beginning with a small test dose and building incrementally. The experience itself unfolds inwardly, most participants spend the majority of the session lying down with eyes closed, moving through a deeply introspective, often visionary inner landscape. You may encounter memories, patterns, insights, and emotional releases. Our team is present throughout, monitoring your physiology and providing grounded, compassionate support. You will never be left alone.

What is the 12-hour titration protocol and why do you use it?

Most providers administer iboga as a single large dose at the outset. We titrate the medicine slowly over 12 hours, beginning with a small test dose and building incrementally based on real-time observation of your physiology and response. This approach dramatically reduces cardiac risk, allows for precise dose calibration to your individual body and intention, and creates a more navigable, meaningful experience. It requires more skill and attention from our team, but we believe it is the only responsible way to work with this medicine.

How many iboga sittings are included?

Our 4-day retreat includes one iboga sitting. Our 5-day retreat includes one to two sittings based on clinical need and individual desire. Our 7-day retreat also includes one to two tailored sittings. The Double Retreat, our most intensive offering for serious addiction, includes two complete 7-day retreats with multiple sittings. More sittings are not always better; depth of preparation and integration matters as much as the treatment itself.

What is integration and why does it matter?

Integration is the process of bringing the insights, releases, and openings from the iboga experience into lasting change in your actual life. The medicine opens a door, integration is the work of walking through it. Without integration, even the most profound experience can fade or feel destabilizing. Our 5-day retreat includes 2 months of post-retreat online integration sessions; our 7-day retreat includes 4 months of monthly 1:1 sessions with a team member. We are committed to you beyond the treatment itself.

Logistics & Pricing

Where do retreats take place?

Our home base is Chiang Mai, Thailand, one of Southeast Asia's most beloved cities, offering world-class healthcare, extraordinary natural beauty, affordable resort-quality accommodation, and a culture of deep spiritual practice. We cover 75% of your lodging cost when you come to Chiang Mai. We also travel worldwide by arrangement, with all team travel, accommodation, and operational costs covered by the participant or host organization.

How much does an iboga retreat cost?

Our retreats are fully private, one team of three dedicated entirely to you.

Pricing: 4-day retreat at $4,500 USD; 5-day retreat at $5,500 USD; 7-day retreat at $7,000 USD; Double Retreat (two complete 7-day retreats for serious addiction) at $16,000 USD.

All prices exclude lodging and food unless you come to Chiang Mai (where 75% of lodging is covered). Group retreats (3 or more) are available at significantly reduced rates.

Sliding-scale spaces are available for those genuinely in need, please reach out.

How far in advance should I book?

We accept only a small number of participants each year. Each retreat requires significant preparation time, medical screening, medication tapering, supplement protocol, and intention work. We recommend reaching out at minimum 6 to 8 weeks before your intended retreat date. Some tapering protocols (particularly for buprenorphine/Suboxone) require 3 to 6 weeks alone. The earlier you reach out, the more spaciously we can hold your preparation.

Do you offer payment plans?

We handle each situation individually and with compassion. If payment timing is a consideration, please bring it up in your initial consultation. We are not a corporation, we are a small team doing deeply human work, and we try to find ways to make this accessible where we can.

IBOGA Benefits

Iboga for PTSD

"The medicine doesn't ask you to relive your trauma. It asks you to finally see it, from a place where you are no longer afraid of it."

Post-traumatic stress disorder is not a character flaw or a weakness. It is the nervous system's intelligence, if now burdensome, attempt to protect you from something that once threatened your survival. The problem is that protection becomes its own prison, keeping you locked in a past that your body cannot stop reliving.

Iboga offers something rare: a way into the traumatic material that does not overwhelm. A way to look at what happened, with extraordinary clarity, and with something that can only be described as compassion without being consumed by it.

How Iboga Works with Trauma

Iboga operates at multiple levels simultaneously, each relevant to the mechanisms of trauma.

Trauma is stored not as a clear narrative memory but as fragmented sensory impressions, emotional charges, and body-based survival responses.

Nervous System Regulation

The hypervigilance, startle response, emotional numbness, and dissociation of PTSD are nervous system states, patterns of activation that have become stuck. Iboga's action on multiple receptor systems, combined with somatic support before and after the treatment, creates conditions for the nervous system to move through and release these held states. Tremoring, emotional release, and deep relaxation are all part of the integrative process.

BDNF and Neuroplasticity

Iboga stimulates the release of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), a protein that supports the growth of new neural connections. Trauma literally changes the brain's structure; BDNF supports the brain's capacity to rewire away from traumatic response patterns and toward new, more adaptive ones.

The Witnessing Quality

Perhaps most distinctly, iboga induces a state of clear, compassionate self-witnessing. Participants frequently describe watching scenes from their lives, including traumatic ones, with a quality of understanding and even forgiveness that had never been accessible before.

What to Expect

We integrate trauma-specific preparation and integration into every retreat. Before your treatment, we engage in targeted trauma mapping, understanding the key experiences and patterns that have shaped your nervous system. During the experience, our team provides somatic support and grounding throughout the retreat. After your sitting, we use TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises), breathwork, and dedicated integration sessions to help the insights and releases settle into your body and your life.

Iboga does not erase memory. It does not make difficult experiences disappear. What it offers is a shift in your relationship to what happened. A way of carrying the past that no longer breaks you.

Is Iboga Right for Your PTSD?

Iboga is a serious undertaking and is not appropriate for everyone. It is not recommended for those with active psychosis, severe dissociative disorders, or certain cardiac conditions. We conduct thorough medical and psychological screening for every participant. If you are on medication, particularly SSRIs, SNRIs, or benzodiazepines, these will require a washout period before treatment.

If you have been struggling with PTSD and feel that conventional approaches have not reached the root, we invite you to reach out. A conversation costs nothing.

IBOGA Benefits

Iboga for Depression

"Depression is not an absence of feeling. It is the weight of everything unfelt, compressed into numbness, exhaustion, and the quiet belief that things cannot change."

If you have lived with depression for years, cycling through medications, managing symptoms, navigating the grey flatness that dims everything, you know how inadequate most treatments feel. Antidepressants may take the edge off. Therapy helps you understand what's happening. But neither touches the root.

Iboga does not manage depression. It asks: what is this depression protecting? What has never been grieved, expressed, or faced? And then, with remarkable gentleness and ferocity, it takes you there.

The Neurological Reset

Iboga acts on the brain's neurochemistry in ways that conventional antidepressants cannot replicate:

  • It stimulates the release of GDNF (Glial Cell Line-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) and BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor), growth factors that repair and regenerate dopamine pathways.
  • It acts on serotonin transporters, sigma receptors, and opioid receptors simultaneously, a multi-system reset that no single pharmaceutical can achieve.
  • It promotes neuroplasticity.
  • It interrupts the rumination loops and fixed narratives that keep depression entrenched.

The Psycho-Spiritual Dimension

Depression is rarely only neurological. At its core, most depression carries unprocessed grief, suppressed anger, disconnection from meaning, accumulated relational wounds, or a life that has drifted far from what the soul actually needs.

Iboga's 18 to 30-hour journey provides access to all of this. Participants frequently encounter the specific losses, betrayals, decisions, and patterns that have compressed themselves into the heavy grey weight of depression. Not to relive them in suffering — but to finally, fully see them, grieve them, and release them.

The result, for many, is not just symptom relief but a genuine reorientation toward life.

Treatment-Resistant Depression

We have worked with individuals who have tried multiple antidepressants, years of therapy, and every supplement protocol available, and still could not find their way out. For this population, iboga offers something genuinely different: a mechanism of action that conventional medicine has not yet been able to replicate.

We do not promise miracles. We promise depth, care, and the most thorough preparation and integration support we know how to offer.

Important Considerations

If you are currently taking antidepressants, a washout period is required before treatment can safely proceed, typically 2 to 6 weeks depending on the medication (SSRIs and SNRIs). We guide you through this process carefully. Never stop psychiatric medication abruptly, always under medical supervision.

Iboga is not appropriate for those with bipolar disorder Type I in active mania, active psychosis, or certain cardiac conditions. Full medical screening is required for every participant.

IBOGA Benefits

Iboga for Life Transition

"Some people come to iboga not because they are broken but because they are ready. Ready to stop living the life they built out of fear, and start building the life they actually want."

Not everyone who comes to Entheos is in crisis. Some of our most profound retreats have been held for individuals who are, by every external measure, doing well, and who sense, underneath the success and the busyness, that something essential has gone unlived.

Career transitions. The end of a long relationship. The death of a parent. A decade-long identity that no longer fits. The arrival of midlife with its radical questioning. Sobriety and the discovery that you don't know who you are without the substance. The birth of a child that changes everything. The collapse of a belief system that once held the world together.

These are not medical crises. They are invitations, uncomfortable, sometimes devastating invitations to become more fully yourself. Iboga is one of the most powerful tools we know for responding to that invitation with courage and clarity.

What Iboga Offers in Times of Transition

Clarity about who you actually are:

Iboga's visionary, introspective quality tends to cut through the accumulated layers of identity, the roles, the personas, the adaptations built for survival or approval, and return people to something more essential. Participants often describe meeting themselves, perhaps for the first time.

Release of what is no longer yours to carry

Transition requires grief. The life you are leaving behind, even if you are leaving it by choice. It deserves to be grieved. Iboga creates space for the full spectrum of emotions: grief, anger, fear, and, eventually, the quiet aliveness that comes after genuine release.

Vision and Direction

Beyond the emotional clearing, many participants experience profound moments of clarity about their direction, about what they are here for, what they value, what kind of life is worth building. These insights are not given from outside; they arise from within, with a quality of certainty that is difficult to describe and impossible to manufacture.

An honest conversation with yourself

Iboga shows you the patterns, avoidances, and self-deceptions that have quietly shaped your choices. Not with cruelty, but with a clarity that makes it very difficult to keep lying to yourself. For people at a crossroads, this is invaluable.

Who This Is For

This work is for people who are willing to be honest, with themselves, with their history, and with what they actually want. It is not for those seeking a shortcut or an escape. Iboga will not make the hard decisions for you. It will, however, strip away much of the confusion, fear, and conditioning that made those decisions feel impossible.

If you are in the middle of a major life change and feel called to do this work in a deeply held, medically safe, and spiritually grounded space, we would be honored to hold that transition with you.

IBOGA Benefits

Iboga Microdosing

"A full iboga treatment is a complete life review. A microdose is a daily tuning, a quiet signal to the nervous system that self-confidence and renewal is possible."

Not everyone is ready for, or requires, a full iboga treatment. And for some who have completed a treatment, the question becomes: how do I continue to support this opening in daily life?

Iboga microdosing, the practice of taking very small, sub-perceptual doses of iboga root bark on a regular schedule, is a growing area of interest for its potential to support cognitive clarity, emotional regulation, energy, and ongoing neurological repair.

What Is Iboga Microdosing?

A microdose of iboga is a dose low enough to produce no perceptual effects, no visions, no intoxication, no significant alteration of consciousness. The intention is not a treatment. It is a gentle, consistent signal to the nervous system and brain chemistry.

Typical protocols involve doses taken every two to three days, with regular rest days to integrate the processing of new emotions coming back online. The substance used is usually full-spectrum iboga root bark or a Total Alkaloid (TA) extract, not Ibogaine HCl, which is too potent for microdosing protocols.

Potential Benefits of Iboga Microdosing

Research and reported experience suggest microdosing iboga may support:

  • Sustained energy and mental clarity without stimulant effects
  • Mood regulation and reduction of depressive and anxious patterns
  • Continued neurological repair, particularly GDNF and BDNF stimulation at low doses
  • Reduced cravings for substances in early recovery
  • Improved focus and presence, particularly for those with ADHD-adjacent patterns
  • Emotional steadiness and resilience during periods of stress
  • Ongoing integration of insights from a full iboga treatment

How It Differs from Psilocybin Microdosing

Iboga microdosing is often described as more grounding and energizing than psilocybin, more 'body present' than 'mind expansive.' Where psilocybin microdosers oexperience increased openness and creativity, iboga microdosers tend to experience steadiness, clarity, and a quiet energy that supports sustained effort. The mechanisms are entirely different: iboga acts primarily on dopaminergic and noradrenergic systems, while psilocybin acts primarily on serotonin.

Is Iboga Microdosing Safe?

For healthy individuals without cardiac contraindications, iboga microdosing is generally considered low-risk when conducted with quality-sourced material and appropriate protocols. However, the same cardiac cautions that apply to full treatments, particularly QT interval concerns and drug interactions, apply to microdosing as well, even at low doses.

We do not recommend beginning an iboga microdosing practice without first having your cardiac health assessed (EKG) and reviewing any medications or supplements you are taking for potential interactions. We are happy to consult on this.

Microdosing After a Treatment

For participants who complete a retreat with Entheos, iboga microdosing can be a powerful integration tool, a way of maintaining and deepening the neurological and psychological openings created during the treatment. We provide guidance on microdosing protocols as part of our post-retreat integration support for those who wish to explore this.

Where to Begin

If you are curious about iboga microdosing, whether as a standalone practice or as part of post-treatment integration, reach out for a consultation. We will review your health history, discuss appropriate protocols, and give you honest guidance about whether this is a fit for you.
